Lot 178 (1797)
Fredericksburg, VA
Original Building Reconstruction
Spring 2017

The purpose of the assignment was to reconstruct a 1797 building located in Downtown Fredericksburg, VA before the fire of 1807 destroyed a majority of the original town. Using information from a 1797 Mutual Assurance Policy and common building techniques from the late 1700’s, the building located on lot 178 of William Street was recreated to its original standing. In order to create photorealistic renderings, photographs of materials, doors, and windows from historic buildings around Downtown Fredericksburg were taken and applied to the model. Lastly, photographs were taken of the current 200 block of William Street and Photoshop was used to place the 1797 model onto lot 178 as seen today. The images below depict how the storehouse would have looked if it was still standing today.
